I think I just installed a CF powerduct but it cannot be right? The duct just slips on over the MAS?? I can't image I am supposed to put a clamp on the CF ?? I need a little reassurance?
All the photos I have seen shows a clamp on each end of the intake tract. So I will say that you need one. Others will likely help out that have them installed.
After closer inspection, I cannot see how this could possibly be right. The car must be taking in some unmetered air through the small gaps around the MAS. If I put a clamp on the carbon fiber part it will crack the minute I tighten it?? Begging for insight here
Thanks for that it would appear that I do have everything correct except that because my duct is carbon fiber and I am certain it will crack that minute I tighten a clamp down on it. I guess I should have bought a plastic one in order to tighten it down Anybody find any fix for this?
this is exactly what I have, but I am concerned about any unmetered air being sucked in. I was thinking about putting a bead of glue or electrical tape around the gap but I think it might take away from the looks. Or maybe cut off a small piece of the coupler and use that?
As I recall it slips over the MAF by about 1/2 an inch. There is a notch that keeps everything aligned. It won't come apart with engine torque. Trust me and the folks that sell these. Just install it as it comes.
Trial fit it and see for your self. You can always add a small piece of duct tape to where it mates to the MAF to help seal it but nothing was said about it in the instructions.
I reused the clamp that was on my stock bridge.
My cf bridge had 2 slots cut in it for tightening it down at least that was what I thought they were for.
I have it tighten down pretty good . No problems yet.
Well I took it all apart and instead of putting a clamp on it, I wrapped the exterior of the MAS with a bit of elec tape, then slid the CF duct on. It was much more snug but I also added a couple layers of elec tape on the outside to seal the gaps up. You can hardly notice the black tape unless you really jam your head down in the engine bay. Seems to be holding together

Re: CF powerduct install??? (pdykinga)
Pete maybe I'm reading to much into your question but, I just re-read your question. You reuse the rubber connector on the MAF. It is suppose to slide into the rubber conector on the MAF not over the MAF. You can then tighten it up as tight as a calmp can be tightened.
you're supposed to re-use the original rubber connector.
You are sucking in unfiltered air otherwise.
Aft of the filter, all connections should be sealed with rubber connectors and clamps.
hmm are there differences between years? On mine the stock duct is plastic and slips over the MAS with a clamp to tighten it down. There is no rubber connector, just the duct itself that slips over the MAS unit. So by replacing the plastic duct with a Carbon Fiber one that is not as flexible as the stock plastic one, it would crack if I were to tighten it down with the same clamp.
