I just got my C5 on Monday as a Certified GM used car, although the fact that the dealer didn't know the car had a CD changer ( I found it in the back when I got home) doesn't instill confidence.
It had 15K miles on it and looks new which is why I jumped on it even though I thought it didn't have the CD changer .
It seems to run fine but when I shut it down, I hear the whirring sound of an electric motor coming from the dash. It lasts about a second or two. I thought it had something to do with the exit feature but it's not the motor from the seat moving.
Also is there a way to get a service report of all trips to the dealer?
way cool dude, welcome to the forum,, I got a 98 a4 with 20 thou miles....paid 23 large for it.......you are going to love the car,,,,especially when you install a set of gears and a blower
I paid a couple thou more , but they tend to be more expensive in the north east. 97's and 98's with low miles go for 25 - 27K .
I knew it was on high side but the car was extra clean. Mine is an A4 too.

It could be the telescopic steering column retracting (also part of the memory feature), try selecting easy entry to OFF to see if the noise goes away. If you have an in dash CD player that could be it also.

Sponge Vette has been at it for over 3 months now, he probably won't mind one more.
Welcome to the forum, you're gonna love the car. Don't forget to
Mark,
Thanks , my CD is in the hatch compartment so I guess it's the wheel , but I don't see the wheel move at all, is it something that breaks easily?
I'll disable the easy out feature and see is it stops
I may be wrong, but I dont think the 98 had tele-scopic wheel,,,,just tilt....mine dont have hud either or the cd changer,,,,,but I dont have a humming in my dash when I shut it off....I would check for diff leaks, as that seems to be a common problem,,,,plus check to see if your battery has leaked ,,,,,the noise may be your cd unit in the dash??unless you have the cassette
Cd Changer is in the back, its a motor sound from inside the car , almost like a power antenna when it's reached bottom, that last second of motor noise

Could it be your electronic column lock in action? If you hear the same sound when you first turn the key, that's what it is.
But why do you not feel confident in the dealer just because they didn't know it had a CD changer? That doesn't seem like a big issue to me at all. With just 15k on it, you've got practically a brand new car there too!

You're right , I guess it's because the salesman didn't know much about the car.
I found the GM Certified report after I wrote that post in the glove box and it seems they really did check the entire car out, even serviced the A/C control panel , checked for a/c gas leaks and turned the front brake rotors.
Welcome to the torch red '98 club, brother! You done got yourself someone's former garage queen with those kind of miles. Check the VIN number on yours to see when it was born. Mine is June, so one of the last before retooling for the '99. 98's are strong runners, man. Engines are a little different, what bolt on's fit ours won't necessarily fit a 2K and up, or require modification.
Prices have really dropped in the past year; I paid 23K for mine (Carmax) with a hair under 50K. One year ago July 4..
