What is the recommended breakin period for a 2004 Convertible? I'm intetrested in motor, brakes, transmission (6-speed) and any other aspects I should watch out for to make sure I get the new 'Vette off to a good long life.
It should be in the owners manual, but mine (y2k) did not include anything about bedding brakes and rotors...This definately needs to be done. You can read generic bedding procedures on tirerack ... or ... http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/...otors_myth.htm
Try to keep the speeds below 55, and varied for the first 500 miles. Longer if you can stand it... Do some back roads, with hills, curves and a few stop signs. Four or five heat/cooling cycles during this time would be good too. Add the brake bedding info, and you have a good break-in program.

, my dealer said do the same but to 1,000 miles. That was hard to do!
I just broke in my new C5 last night. 500 miles and from what I can tell, Its ready to go.
Just make sure to get a oil change at around 800 to 1000 miles.
For the first 500, do keep it under 55 and just do a lot of near stops 5 mph to 50 mphs. From what I was told, the engine just needs differnet rpm speeds.
And I think its safe to assume that now-a-days, cars dont need so much breakin as it did in the past.
I heard that all cars are redlines when they come of the line.
I picked up my ZO6 in Texas (way better price) and drove it back to CT. Never did the 55 MPH thing but kept it around 60 -70 and varried the engine RPM a lot. Man,,,,it is tough to not romp on a 400 HP car!!
At a little over 800 miles I had to roast a pesky Mustang. I crammed it into 3rd and ran it up to red line and red lined 4th.
She does NOT burn a drop of oil between oil changes and she runs STRONG!

I think the drive train (Trans and Rear) need to be broken in easy more than the engine.
