I used to recommend Lamar Walden Automotive without reservation but that now has a footnote attached as they recently did a poor job on a friend's C5 - definitely not characteristic of them but not good. There is a tuner vacuum in the greater Atlanta area and Georgia in general that could be quite lucrative to fill for an enterprising, talented and reliable tuner.
For the time being, I'd direct you to David Fulcher, the C5 tech at Tom Jumper Chevy in Alpharetta (North Atlanta). GMMG has a couple of techs that I've spoken to who seem promising too but I haven't worked with them yet. You'll hear a couple of other names thrown around but I'd be careful and research them carefully first (hint, hint).
You can post this same question in the Southeast section under Forums/Upcoming Events and Regional Discussion/Southeast from the menu above. The group at http://www.peachstateposse.com is a great group to consult on this question also.
Or you can do what I and my buddies do and just install it yourself. That's the most fun and satisfying. In fact, we're doing one next Saturday.
I agree with the lack of C5 specialist in GA, which is why I posted. I looked in the Vette fever mag a few months back when they posted "recomended" locations and I don't think Ga had any listed.
I tend to avoid the dealerships, both because of my past experience with them, and the fact that they tend to be much less flexible on the price. (Got to make the owners some money as well as the tech)
If you're volenteering to help me with mine, just let me know what saturday to come up
Reese *** owns MTI Racing in Marietta Georgia. July 04 issue of Vette Magazine pages 54-60. apparently has a lot of background in C5's and used to race WC in 99. might be worth a call. article says phone # is 770-919-7774.
i met him at Roebling Road a couple years ago and he was friendly and helpful with all of the questions i had about my car.
I have had alot of work done here in Atlanta. The only people that I have been satisfied with is Lamar Wladen Automotive. I am not real sure what the latest is on them though. I would absolutely stay away from RP Motorsports!!! Also I here from sevreal of the veterans that MTI is even worse. I would highly recomend Lamar Wladen but, I have not delt with them in the past six months though. Sorry I can not be of more help.
Lamar Walden has done all of my motor/mechnical work and I am very pleased - great work and they stand behind it. I have used Reese *** (MTI)for 4 corner weighting/chassis set-up and getting some downdraft for high speed road course work and he did great (since he is not racing as much Reese is watching the store - good news for us IMO).
Tom did my tuning for LWA, he is still available. He trained Rob (owner's son) who does the basic tuning, I think Tom still does the modified motor tuning.
I agree, Garland is great.
Les
Does Tom Garland still do LWA's tuning?? He was/is topnotch.
