I'm currently running: '01 Vert, BW, MF X-pipe, GHLs.
(Way too tame
) I feel the need to sing.
I drove Brian's (Cobra4B) Z with Kooks headers, stock cats, stock H-Pipe and Borla 2's. (Resonance issues espoused on CF are
: but that's why I spent so much on GHL in the first place
)
I also followed that Z around BG for a weekend in the twisties.

That's the sound I want!!!!! I'm more interested in the sound than the performance. Nasty, Naughty, Evil, Wicked sound. The kind of sound that deserves a spanking from it's mother. (And B actually received that
)
I understand there's a different cam in the Z and other assorted reasons why he sounds that way.
Can I get close to that sound from:
LG LT's, HF cats (no emission issues in Michigan so the sky is the limit) and ditch the GHL for Borla? I plan on a PCM Edit once everything is done. Just to make sure I'm getting the most.
I know the difference between FLP and Borla at the tips on Bone Stock. Would the FLP Headers add "Note"? More than the LG's?
Sorry, but I still have a bit of Newb in me and when I start a project, I always take it seriously. Even if it is, after all, a toy.
Where better to get advice than CF?
Thanx.

Get some long tubes(doesn't matter what brand) and no cats, right into the X pipe and GHL's and go from there. It'll sound wicked. I recently had TPIS+no cats+Magnaflow X+Dynomax bullet straight thru mufflers installed on my 98 coupe and it sounds mean! Like a milder NASCAR at WOT. I think and long tubes plus the no cats will wake your vette up.

Add the LT headers with NO cats, and keep the GHL's.
It will be a lot louder than a Stinger/header-equipped car with cats. The cats are effectively mufflers, and once they're gone, you can really make some noise.
And do remember, given identical mods, Z's will always be a little louder due to the better heads and cam in them.

Even Abby loved the interior sound and what others refer to as "resonance" in the Z w/ Borla.
And she gets a headache whenever a cloud forms
Thanx.!
how do you pass your smog test in Khaleefohrnia with no cats?
If you want loud get The B&B Bullets The bullets with headers is even louderI have set off car alarm when I drive by them
I do not think you will find anything as loud

I used to have TPIS headers, no cats, and Borla Stingers and LOVED it. There was definitely some resonance, that would only get really bad if you tried to accel at under 1600rpm. However, I recently had a chance to throw some B&B PRTs on my car, and I LOVE THEM EVEN MORE! I'd say 1/2 the resonance, would probably be none on a stock car, but I have heads/cam. Lots of burbling, crackling and popping on decel, which I love, and are essentially straight pipes at WOT. I'd say it sounds pretty damn close to a C5R. I'm still getting used to the speedway tips, but the exhaust is sweet. EVILER (is that a word? lol) than the Borlas from the outside, and quieter on the inside... except at WOT, then it's the loudest thing on wheels.
I heard a soundclip of the PRT's and agree they are wicked as hell sounding. If I were going to bother with going with aftermarket catbacks these would be it.
I just got the Bullets. My last 2 catbacks were the PRTs and the Stingers.
The Bullets seem to be a mix of the previous 2 and a little bit louder than both. They are kinda like the PRTs but with more of a deep rumble like the Stingers. I love these. Had them for a couple days now and already got many compliments.

YOU NEED LONG TUDES . Keep the GHLs
I have TPIS long tubes, Random Tech high flow cats and x-pipe and GHLs I love the sound. No problems passing inspections either,
Could it be louder? YES. The loudest that I have head was TPIS long tubes with straight pipe on a 500 RWHP C4 TCC car.
The other car that was loud had LGmotorsporst Long tubes. x-pipe and Borla exhaust.

I have LG longtubes with free flow cats and Corsa Tiger Sharks. I get a lot of compliments on the sound. I personally prefer the Borla sound so my car has Borla's but no headers, ...yet.

Get some Kooks without cats and 2.5" pipes after the X. Cats muffle the sound. Also IMHO running 3" on a mostly stock will reduce the noise level.
My H&C is one of the loudest H&C cars I've heard on this setup.

that the SLP's are loud. But I'm not nuts about the tips I saw at CI-V. Do they offer any tip option? That sound in Corsa Tiger Shark tips would be sold 10 minutes ago.....
Thanx for all the replies. I'm taking notes. Keep them coming
Michael
I posted over on the Gen section too! The new tips look much better than the old ones
Its a crappy pic but you can see how much bigger they are than the stingers
Good luck on your decision though. You won't be disappointed with the Big Mouths

Do I hear the beginnings of a decision forming in the back of my head?????
Would it be logical that the SLP Headers w/ no cats and those tips would constitute a misdemeanor???? Considering I have no emissions requirements????
Maybe in other states, but not Michigan!
Hey, can someone chop those tips into my sig????????
Thanx for all the input. Keep 'em coming :flag

Revved at half throttle I set off a T/A's alarm that was parked beside me 2 weeks ago. There was 2 mechanics & the driver of a rail dragster that thought my car was just nasty sounding.
