Default charge system fault notification

anyone, please tell me what this is telling me. my alternater when car is running 14,18, when not running it is 12.68. the battery is at 12.48 when the car is not running. my service department said the drive belt is loose, but doesn't it have a self tensioning device already. any ideas would be appreciated. thanks, I love my Z especially after my modest mods.

with the car running,if you are getting 18 volts, you are overcharging[that's bad].if you are charging at 14.1,that's ok.what are you charging at when the battery is loaded[lights, high beams,wipers,a/c,etc.on]?what are the faults in the pcm,if any?does the battery pass a load test?did this start after any mods?

that should have read 14.1 the computer indicates under load 13.2 - 13.7
Yes it started after installing a halltech trap and nology hotwires. also every 2 or 3 times I start it it is at 11.9 to 12.2 for several minutes. if i shut it off and start again it usuall comes up to the levels I listed

I had these same symptons in my 2003 Coupe. Not only did the voltage meter bounce all over the scale but the dash light up like a Christmas tree (Check ABS; Traction Control turned off; High voltage detected; Charging System Fault). After 3 trips to/from the dealer and replacing the battery twice and the alternator once, they finally did a voltage leak test and discovered that the starter had a short. Once the starter was replaced, the problem went away.
