My car seems a little harsh shifting into gear on my '04 Auto w/ only 1450 miles on her so far, so I went to check the trans fluid and I can't find the dip stick, I checked the Owners Manual and it says to take it to a dealer and doesn't mention a dip stick at all???
Am I just blind? Or is it under one of the plastic engine covers or something?
Is in normal to have a little hitch when going into gear or should it be smooth as silk? My previous Vette was a Manual so I don't have any frame of reference to work with on this one.
Thanks in advance to the best forum members on the Web!
You can't find the dipstick, 'cause there ain't one. It would be pretty tough to run a dipstick all the way from the tranny to the engine compartment, so GM went with a bolt hole in the side of the transmission, much like most manual trannies. The difference here is that the auto has to be checked with the engine running, which makes it a little more difficult without a lift.
I'm not sure what you mean by a hitch. Are you speaking of a slight delay when you go from park to drive? Or are you talking about the actual 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 shifts? In my experience it does take a second for the transmission to get into gear when shifting from park to drive, especially in the morning when the fluid is cold.
There is none, sorry. The procedure involves jacking up the car level, and taking out the fill plug, and filling up to the fill hole, I believe. Someone that has an A4 may be able to clarify better.
Definitely something for the dealer to handle as I have no way of getting to it. Hopefully I don't have any issue and a little jarring on engagement is normal.
