Default Memory seat behavior

When I remove the key from the ignition, the seat moves all the way back to allow easy exit from the car. However, when inserting the key into the ignition, the seat does not always return to it's memory position automatically... I have to press the memory button. It seems to work 100% of the time when the car has been sitting for a while. However, parking it and running into the store for 5 minutes, it is hit or miss when I return.

Is this typical behavior or are there certain steps that make this work 100% of the time?

I think there are some problems with the seat functions in general that GM hasn't addressed. My easy out feature doesn't take the seat all the way back, I can get it to go back even more if I use the side button on the seat. Some have told me it's the same on their car and it may be a safety thing to prevent seat mechanism damage. I don't think so because I have found other people with the same and different year cars say their seats go all the way back.

Another forum member suggested that you have to unlock the care with the fob for the seats to slide into place when going in. That worked for me. Apparently the unlocking triggers it. No lock, no slide into place.

There are two things you can do to affect this behaviour. First, use the key fob to unlock the doors as that's what tells the car which settings to recall. Second, read your owner's manual.

I've experimented with using the key fob to unlock the doors and activate the memory setting per the manual and video but it's still hit or miss when it's a short amount of time from the last time I exited the car.

When the car sits for a while, I have no problems at all... whether I use the key fob or not prior to entering the car.

I thought it was just a quirky behavior with my C5 but my dad is experiencing the same thing on his C5.

I have a 98 coupe and every once in a while I will get the same seat memory issue. I have found that I can position the seat al the way back and disconnect the battery for a little while and once it is reconnected and I program the memory seat function, it is trouble free for quite a while. Disconnecting the battery also get rid of other peskey problems like AC temperature control issues, Column lock error messages, ect.
