Default Hardwired radar detector into mirror w/pics

I finally wired my Escort 8500 into my electrochromatic mirror on my Z. I found the 2 wires that turn on/off with the ignition, and now I am very happy!

I took pics to help those of you thinking about doing this

Is that a switched 12V or a constant on 12V source?

Default Yes, I am sure...

The wires you want are orange and brown. They look black and red in the picture, but there are 2 other wires that are black and red. The brown is positive and the orange is negative. Sounds weird, but if I had it mixed up, my detector would not work. I actually took the smart plug apart to determine what the detector needed.

This connection is switched. I had to turn the key on to get the meter to register the voltage.

TS,
Great post, I've been putting this off for almost a year for lack of info. Looks like I'm out of excuses now. But Thanks anyway

Yes. IIRC, there are four wires on the standard mirror, two orange, brown and black. Brown is switched 12V, and black is ground. One orange wire is always hot, and one is hot with the door circuit.

It's been awhile since I did the check, so use a voltmeter to check for sure!

Same cord works with the V-1 as well.

Particularly important is the note that the hot wire is door switched, meaning it is off with the door open. I didn't know this and sent back a perfectly good phone cord because I could not activate the V-1 with the door open!! Best,

I had to use the black and one of the orange wires.

FWIW, I prefer to have the V1 switched with the ignition key, so I will use the brown and black.
