Is getting the car dyno tune worth the money? I own a M6 01 coupe, the only performance Mods are Magna flow exhaust with the X pipe and K& N twin cone intake with the smooth intake hose. What could I expect for a $400 dyno tune? I also plan on having the thermostat change before the tune. My car has 56K on her and is running perfect, should I get the tune or put my money on more Mods?
It varies from car to car. Some can pick up as much as 15 extra hp. Others might pick up 1 or 2. It just depends on how crappy/good your tune was from the factory.
I'd wait till you get headers or a cam to spend the money on a dyno tune...Otherwise you'd end up having to spend it again down the road. But yes, a dyno tune can get you a nice increase in power, 10-15 rwhp.
Is that 10 -15 hp plus my mods or with the mods? If I will be able to tell the difference in performance I'm there, but a 10 hp increase is probably not going to be noticeable to me. I use the car as a daily driver but it is always in show room ready condition.

I think it's an absolute must with headers but maybe not for the mods you have.
A tune is always a good thing to get, but it's even more important when you add headers. We do alot of mail order tunes for vettes & f-bodies, if your not near a dyno you could always go that route
Hey Cajun, I just want to know I am not just pissing my money away. I could use it for other mods if I am not going to tell the difference of before and after its done. I would like to hear from some vette owners who have had their car tuned but don't have any major engine mods.
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you mail off your PCM and the tuner will re-program it and then mail it back to you with new program parameters.
Mail order tune, Maybe I have to remove the engine and send it to them for tune??
Now that I gotta see.
I think they are talking about reprogramming your chip to settings based upon what you have on your car. It's not the same as having someone watching the dyno results and making changes real time.

If you plan an doing ANY other mods such as intake/headers/cam etc, then I would suggest waiting for the tune. Do it after you install all those parts so you don't have to pay twice. As far as a mail in tune, some tuners are good and will mail you the new pcm and you swap it out and mail back the original one from your car. That way you lose zero drive time.
