I have an 01 C5 and am getting ready to do some mods. I have done a search and seen that differnt people say that the 2001 C5's do and don't come with the LS6 intake manifold. What is it? Thanks.
Actaully, from threads that I have read in the past, they are both right Somewhere in the middle of the 2001 production year (I couldn't tell you exactly when) was when the switch occured.
Sorry I can't be more specific. Hopefully, someone that knows will chime in.
That'a a tough one. If you take the manifold off, the bottom will be flat if it is an LS6 manifold. If it's an LS1 manifold, underneath it will angle upslightly from the ports towards the center. If it is on the car you can check the coolant crossover pipes. If you look at the front of the heads under the throttle body and you have an LS6 manifold, you will see a small pipe connecting the left and right heads with a 'T' close to the driver's side with a small hose connecting it to the throttle body. It will be one continuous pipe from one side to the other. An LS1 manifold will have the 'T' connection with hose on the driver's side, but it will arc back under the manifold and have a joint at the center and it will arc back out frim under the manifold to connect to the passenger's side head.
I know it's confusing but that is really the only way I know of to determine this unless you have the manifold off.
OK, I have a small pipe connecting the left and right head together. So I guess I have an LS6 intake. Well that's one less thing I need to spend money on. Thanks guys.
You should also check to see when your build date was to see if you have the first generation of coated pistons. If your car was built after April of 01 you most defenitly have them. WWW.Jacklatham.com has some good info you may want to check out which can answer alot of your questions.
