Default LS6 OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR - Where?

Gentlemen,

On an '02 to '04 LS6 engine, the oil temperature sensor is screwed into an adapter off the oil filter. My question is:

Does the Oil Temperature Sensor Measure oil temperature BEFORE or AFTER the oil has passed through the filter?

Thanks for your assistance.

From the Lubrication Flow Schematic, and description of oil flow in the Service Manual, it appears to me that oil temperature is measured AFTER it passes through the filter.

I am using a 2003 Service Manual.

Lubrication description and diagram is on page 6-372. This is in the narrative section at the back of the Engine Mechanical part of Section 6.

The Engine Oil Temperature Gage Sensor Replacement segment on page 6-153 (Engine Mechanical) shows the location of the sensor and oil filter. From this drawing, and the lubrication drawing, it appears to me that oil flows through the filter, and then up and past the temperature sensor.

David,

Thanks for the information.

I found it in my Service Manual, and it verifies exactly what you are saying.

It also demonstrates that I am measuring my oil temperature AFTER my Ron Davis Racing radiator's oil cooler has cooled the oil to 181 to 183 degrees F.

That means my pan oil temperatures are 20 to 30 degrees higher - 202 to 212 degrees F. PERFECT ! ! ! !

Thanks again.
