If you have a warrenty you are back 3, 4 maybe 5 times to get the problem fixed. If it on your dime start shelling out $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!It to your advanyage to learn your car, know how to read the codes and know what each one means. That way you are less of a sheep when you walk into the pack of wolves. If they tell you "Sir your BCM needs replacement and you know the codes told you that the Right Bank O2 sensor was the issue you can toss that at them and watch them try to tap dance!!

I have been suffering with "GROUND" issues for a L O N G time with my 98 coupe!
I am going to CUT off all of those ground wire termination blocks and use the good old fashion ground lug! Bill C

You may need a new EBTCM. Depending on whether you have AH or just Traction Control. GM had to make a design change on the early TC EBTCMs due to intermittent traction control, ABS problems. Fixing the grounds did not cure the condition.

My problems centered around the Throttle Actuator Control module. I had to get a "REVISED" module (same GM pooblems
) and that got most of the problems fixed. The other problem that I was having was when I turned the key to the RUN position, I do not get all of the functions that I normally get and I throw a bunch of codes. I dont hear the fuel pump run to charge up the fuel rail, yhe TC off light on the dash illuminates and the AC/heater fan will not come on. If I cycle the key a few times or leave it in the run position for a while it will return to normal but I have to clear the codes or it will be in the "REDUCED POWER MODE" It is weather dependant and messing with the grounds changes the faults!I see GROUND surgery in the near future!

THE CODE CAME UP #1282, WHICH I'M TOLD IS THE SOP SENSOR,
THE CAR THINKS THAT YOU ARE LOSING CONTROL OF CAR, SO
IT APPLIES THE BRAKES. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY HAVE NEVER
HAD TO ORDER THIS PART BEFORE, SO ISN'T IT MY LUCK!
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM?

I just dropped off my '02 at the dealers with the AH, ABS, TC error messages on the DIC (started on Tuesday morning). They (well the Service Advisor anyway) called and told me that the PCM was fried
. I said WTF, I'll be right over. The only Code in the DIC was a TCS 1214 which is a solenoid failure. So I talk to the Service Director, and he shows me that the small ground cable from the negative battery cable is loose, and said that they measured 4.5 volts at the AH module which is in front of the engine. He never says anything about the PCM. I thought the PCM was under the battery (or is that the BCM?) I guess they could share this same ground.
Anyway, I am kind of confused, and wondering what the "smaller" ground cable from the battery is used for.
They are going to fix it under warranty, but have to keep the car until early next week because they don't have the part (PCM or AH control module) and it is on back order
It's going to be a long sleepless weekend
