I just went to start my car and the car wouldn't start. When i put the key in, the lights fluttered and nothing turned over like it normally would do. So right away, i figured it has to do with the battery. I went to get the cable to hook it up to my other car...lights came back on, radio is working, but the car still won't start...but would have those ticks. I check the DIC for the battery guaged and it says 13.1 with the cable connected to the other battery. I also checked to see if the wires to the battery are loose and they aren't. This is a daily driver, drove it this afternoon and has around 28 thousand miles. It's a 2002.
I just went and start the car again...and now the DIC says REDUCED ENGINE POWER. I have no clue what that means. And the car was still ticking, yet everything (i.e. radio, etc) looks fine.
Sounds like a dead battery. It takes a few amps to run the accessories you mentioned, but 35-60 amps to turn the starter. Typical 12 volt battery failure. Works one minute, and won't start the next.
