Been driving the car a bit hard lately, having far too much fun. Only problem is that lately I've noticed when I let the clutch out during normal driving conditions I hear a rattling noise that I don't recall being there at the beginning of the summer. I can't hear it under hard acceleration because the exhaust is too loud, but I'm assuming it occurs all the time. Has this happened to anyone else?? Am I abusing the car a bit too hard? The gears engage without a problem and the clutch is not slipping when taking off from a stop. Hope I've explained the noise sufficiently. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!
With a MN6, Stingers (loud), on a C5 you purchased recently... ... sounds like the rattle of somthing in a tin can? Maybe you have just noticed the the C5 drive train rattle that comes with all C5 MN6's. If that is the noise, no problem, we all have it. It's actually comming from the drive train, not the clutch. Check with other MN6 drivers in your area, maybe the local vette club, to hear other cars.
At first I was not sure what it was, but then some people told me it was normal. It still bothered me, but now seeing that everyone has the same experience I am less worried about it.
Thanks fellas for the info. I bought the car basically stock and was starting to think the few mods I had done negatively affected the car in some way. Guess now I can go back to planning the next big mod!
I'm in a similar possition as you H82GOSLW. I was driving the car a little too hard, and one day dumped the clutch out of first. The clutch stuck, and that familiar smell of burning clutch plate was present. I then started to notice a 1st gear and low rpm rattle. It also makes a "snapping", or "clicking" sound sometimes when I release the clutch in neutral.
After getting it inspected they said the clutch plate is worne down and needs to be replaced. I'll have it fixed soon and let you know how it goes.
Ditto... had the rattle in my MN6 Z28 and now in my C5. I've read that as has been said above, it's a T-56 thing, not related to what car it's in. Not that I've done much reading on Viper or Mustang boards, but do those cars have the T-56 rattle too?
My buddy's '03 Cobra w/ a T56 is missing the 'marbles in a can' sound and I can't say I've heard any F-Body guys complaining about it. I think the sound is amplified by the torque tube.
"Marbles in a can" is different than what is being discussed I think. Only C5s have that, I think it's because when the car is in neutral, the driveshaft is spinning. Push the clutch in, sound goes away. My T56 in my F-body does not make that sound at all in neutral.

Dope
The T56 in my 1997 Trans Am had the marbles in a can. It's a T56 issue, not a C5 issue. Some Vipers also have the noise.
Marbles in a can is a rattling heard when first starting out low in a gear and/or a rattling when the clutch is engaged in neutral.
You need to check your clutch for irregular wear and your throw out bearing. I had a so called normal noise turned out it was a bad throw out bearing that caused allot more damage because I drove with it. If it's not your daily get some tools out lift her and check. You can find good videos on YouTube that go in depth on how to. You DO NOT need a fancy lift, just a jack and some stands. No more than 300$ for tools. Having someone to help makes it easier.
