Been having a minor problem with my gas gauge. Hasn't been a problem until today. Filled up the tank like normal. But it took almost 25 miles for the gauge to show full. I slowly worked its way to full, but normally it only takes a couple of seconds. Any idea?
Add a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. They say that sulpher deposits build up on the level sensor reostat and that is the fix for it! If you are under warrenty, TAKE IT BACK! If not add the cleaner!
The sulfur in the gas causes a problem because it changes the electrical resistance of the gas level sensor. There is a re-flash that fixes the gas gauge from dropping to E with 1/3 left in tank it may help the "slow" full tank problem too. Basically it is a better computer program that is more tolerant of resistance fluctuations. The Chevron cleaner is a good idea too. Try the re-flash before you let them take out the fuel level sensor. The problem will only reoccur again if the re-flash is not done and the sulfur builds up again.
If you are in Louisiana or Florida and bought Shell gas last month they had a problem with a high sulfer content in the gas and caused a lot of gas gauge problems. If that is the case contact Shell and they will fix it.

I'm not in LA or FL, but I am in Mississippi and use Shell gas. May have to look into that. I did start having the problems when that new "V-Power" gas started being used.
My car has done this several times and the problem was solved by simply shuting off the engine and restarting and the gauge pops right up to full. Mine seems more likely to have this trouble if I leave the key turned to acc as I am filling up(passenger in car listening to radio). Hope this helps
