Default can't open trunk 2000 coupe

Purchased my first Corvette 6 months ago. Recently had GM dealer service clear blocked A/C drain which was leaking water on passenger side floor. Since then, I cannot open trunk with either remote or dash button. All other electronics seem fine. Dealer says needs new Body Control Module (expensive). Car has 17K miles. Any suggestions as to another solution?

Don't use the trunk? There really isn't much storage room in there anyway.

Good luck,

Mark

there is a manual method for opening the trunk. Look for a small (silver) cable about 16 inches below the interior trunk latch. Pull the cable and the trunk will open. A similar cable for the manual operation of the gas cap is found in the trunk interior just above the rear driver's wheel well.

I find it hard to believe that the trunk latch failing would be the only symptom of a bad BCM. Start tracking the wires and check the fuses, the worst would be a solonoid at the trunk latch, easiest a fuse.

I had a very strange Column Lock bypass issue that was BCM related! This problem was on my NEW BCM and boy was I mad!! :mad On a hunch, I disconnected the battery, let it sit disconnected for a few minutes and the problem is GONE! Give that a try!

You can remove your BCM and see if the pins on the connectors are corroded! If they are corroded, clean them and see if that fixes the problem. I got brave and opened up the old BCM. Wow, its nothing special! I found some corrosion deposits on the board that cleaned up real easy with a nylon tooth brush!
If you are doing this on your BCM, be careful, it is (ESD) Electro Static Discharge sensitave!! If the board is corroded, clean it off and reinstall it!
