Default Squeel when accelerating

Dad's car has this strange squeel coming from the engine when you accelerate. It only happens between 2000-2500 rpm's. Nothing below or above it. I've checked all the intake connection points and they are tight and there are no leaks. It sounds alot like a throttle body spacer type squeel. Any ideas? Thanks for the help yall.

When you say squeal I think that's a bit misleading - do mean squeal like a slipping belt or maybe a high pitched whistle?

If you have a high pitch wistle, it is most likely related to the intake manifold. There is a small cavity on the inside of the intake manifold near the throttle body that results in a whistle at some RPMs and certain throttle position (certain air flow).

This is much more noticable with an aftermarked filter/intake (more air).

I had it on the '01 and again (less) on the '04. There is a mod to fix it but it entails plugging that cavity and if I remember right was too involved for me to just eliminate a little whistle.

Without hearing it in person, this is my guess based on what you've described.

Just drive it few hundred feet with NO serp belt. If noise is there/not there at least you know if the belt is/isn't the culprit.

It is a whistle. Yellow01, do yu know of a link or something where I might check this out? Someone told me it may be a pulley or something going out (like the bearings or something).

Ragtopws6 Sounds like a belt problem!! Remember, you have TWO belts. Remove the belts for a short drive and see if that takes care of it!!

Do not know what your squeal is on acceleration, mine is the wife trying to get me to slow down.

Here's one that describes what you are hearing - I guess the intake whistle was only '01.

Given the rpm range of the whistle and the fact that the car has a Blackwing intake, I'm guessing it could be the rushing of gobs of air into the system

If the whistle changes pitch with rpms, it is either the throttle body whistle (common on 2001's like mine) or the alternator bearings are toast. To check the alternator, simply remove the serp. belt for it and rev the car a couple of times. If the problem goes away, replace the alternator.

I also hear this squeel and only started hearing it immediately after I installed my blackwing filter...So just as heads up, an aftermarket filter is probably to blame
