A4 Owners - Hardened Output Shaft...

When is it time to install a Hardened output shaft? 400RWHP? 450RWHP? What is the threshold of the stock output shaft, before you have to worry about breaking it?

going from 2.73 to 3.42 -they(WheeltoWheel) put the hardened shaft in at this time just in case further changes were made.

478 RWHP and 541 RWTQ and still have stock shaft after 4 years of raceing. 1.51 best 60'

500+ rwhp and 2 years of dragstrip abuse with e.t. streets and still got the stocker.

Is a hardened output shaft part of the package when you get a "heavy duty" diff? It's hard to tell if these items are separate things from the catalogue packages.

I looked into having them installed a few months ago and was told by a friend and vette mech. that is you have one part that will give under extreme stress you want it to be the cheapest to replace. Thats why I still have stock shafts. I was also told that with an a4 you really don't get the preasure you do with a stick. thats all I have for ya

I changed it when I changed 3.15:1 gears to 3.90:1 gears and upgraded the Torque Converter to 3800 while making 420 rwhp. I did dodge a could of bullets when I made several nitrous runs making over 700 rwhp
