Default Need help....I have a leak

Well guys....

I noticed a leak towards the front of my wife's 98 C5....after looking two evenings after my wife drove it I found it to be leaking right under the area where the two small coolant hoses and one large radiator hose connects to what I believe is the water pump. It's right above the serpentine tensioner. Is this the water pump?

Also what are the points of failure on the LS1 as far as the cooling system is concerned?

Also---if I have to replace the water pump---whats the thought on getting rid of the Dexcool and going with Regular antifreeze?

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

Yes, that is the water pump. The small hoses should be for the heater inlet, and the surge tank outlet.

I would use 50-50 Dexcool and water as specified by the Owner's Manual and the Service Manual.

Use of a silicated coolant may result in premature engine, heater core, or radiator corrosion. Using the wrong coolant will just create a hassle, as you cannot just switch back-and-forth between coolant types.

Any mechanic servicing/inspecting the car at a later time would expect Dexcool, this might effect the future sale/trade-in price of your car as it would call into question the quality of maintenance the car has had.
