Default Killed My Clutch

hey all, i think i killed my clutch on sunday, i was going down a hill tried to shift into second and got some grinding... thought nothing of it took the car out of gear and coasted down hill. got home and the car reaked of clutch for hours. i drove to work today and it;s real tempermental it's real grabby, either on or off not able to slip it. i didn't really abuse it on the way to work to see if it's slipping. it only has 8k miles on it what do you all think i should do.

a. Try for a warranty repair
b. Purchase a new Clutch
c don't worry about it it's the first time it's happened it will return to normal
d. If B what Clutch and flywheel combo....

thanks guys i need help quick i'm affraid it won't last much longer

The Clutch Ran strong on SAT... it grabbed hard enough to run 12.7 and 114 and had no problems on the way home

I guess I'd go with option A, but I really don't have enough experince to say that it isn't somewhat normal on a C5, so see what other folks have to say too.

Give it awhile and see if it gets any better. If not, I'd try to get a whole new clutch system under warranty. Mine got moody around 18k miles (clutch pedal would stick to floor) and, a bit to my surprise, my dealer replaced the whole enchilada under warranty.

Unless you have plans to add a lot of power, then just getting a free stocker seems like a good plan for the meantime, particularly b/c your '04 car I think should have the same clutch as was in the '01 and up Z06, which is reputed to be a pretty good clutch as stock clutches go.

Provided the nauseating aroma of clutch disintegration dissipates I wouldn't give it a second thought.. If, on the other hand, your clutch continues to misbehave I would opt for option A.

Good luck,

Mark

Option A is the way....it is under warranty.....
Can you find out why it has s..it it self with such low miles????
My 2001 Z is stiff re: engageing gears and I was told it was the clutch..Others have said check the tranny fluids and shifter grease in the gearbox. I was was getting that nasty "clutch" smell for a while.

Hope yours is OK.

Have you had soemone look at it yet?.....

You probably glazed the clutch. It makes it really grabby. It will wear down over time, give it a week or two.

Clutch smell should go away within a few days.

Just keep driving it, why not? If it really is toast, it will start slipping badly/etc. Then replace it.

If you get a lot chatter when letting it out most likely you glazed it. You might have some heat spots on the pressure plate. It might be alright for a while but when I toasted mine once it got hot it slipped badly. I would follow the above advice and see if gets worse before you go further.

i don't getr to much chatter, but it doesnot engage until almost the very top.... and i can be taken out of gear and place in another gear without using the clutch.
