Default What to do next...upgrade suggestions?

Hey Everyone,

My current upgrades on my 1998 A4 are a Blackwing intake, B&B Triflow, an LS1 Edit and a 3.42.
Although I am satisfied for the most part with the results I am looking for a better launch...currently VERY STRONG from 25mph on up but still relatively sluggish off the line (can barely spin the run flats)
I've been looking at a 3000 stall TC or larger injectors but don't know which will give me the most bang for my buck and improvement off the line. Suggestions on brands would also be appreciated!
I drive fairly conservatively on the street but occasionally get a wild hair at a stop light or on an open highway so I'm really not looking for E.T.s.
NO STREET RACING

This forum has really added to my enjoyment and knowledge of my C5 so many thanks to its members, administrators and sponsoring vendors.

Thanks in advance

David

The most performance for that SOTP feel will be a torque converter it will make your driving alot more interesting.

Thanks, Goose...BTW what do you know about a Friday night gathering in St. Charles around the West Clay area. I hear that once or twice a month a bunch of folks gather to show off their rides.. Is this an organized event or just a spontaneaous deal?

I'm in the West County area and might check it out!

Also, am I correct in assuming my new TC will require a retune?

Default Tc

Get a Torque Converter I like the Pro Torque 2400 or 2800 .The 2400 with the 3.42 gears will wake your car up like you can not beleave Also get a TransGo shift kit and have it installed
You do not have to tune for the TC but you do for the 3.42 gears Have it tuned it will change your Rev limter/Fans/shift points /3.42 gears because with out the tuning your speedo will not be right.

You might want to do a tranny cooler while you do the TC .

First thing should be a torque converter then maybe a set of longtubes to complement the current air intake and exhaust mods!

Get the Fever!

For stop light/launches a torque converter definitely. Surprised you didnt do it at same time as 3.42's, would have saved a ton on labor (unless your doing it yourself?).

For highway/rolling launches the torque converter won't really help. First you have to decide your long term goals/budget.

So if head/cam approach or just cam:
1) headers
2) cam+tune or heads+cam+tune
3) heads if only cam in #2 or skip it if happy with current power

Or FI approach
1) supercharger. For a street car, I'd recommend the magnuson or procharger. Must have a good FI tuner near you. Don't really need any other mods at least short term.

I spent a lot of time flip flopping before I went with the magnuson last june. I have been very happy with it. Only thing I regret was the amount of money I spent on headers on back since the magnuson doesn't really need them.

In St.Charles on Droste near the intersection of West Clay J.J's. Restuarant has a cruise on the second or third saturday of the month, not sure. On all Fridays at Mexico Rd. and Highway 79 is another and tonight in Wentzeville the police close off Main Street and you cruise from 4 till 10 with any vehicle 1974 and older. Open headers or what ever, it's a great evening, I'll be there in my 68 Big Block Vette it's British Green. Come On Out!

I got to fired up about the cruise you won't need a tune on your car for the converter but one of the Vinci Programmers would help your ride a bunch. The programmer will adjust shift points, torque management and give you the ability to adjust your timing and fuel curves. This is a great product.

Yeah, I've heard great things about the Vinci Programmer but unfortunately they do not yet offer one for the 1998 C5 that allows 3.42 scaling. They told me it might be available in the next few months. My wife and I are gonna try to make the St. Chas. run next Friday night...if we see your car we'll say howdy
