Thoughts on an electric water pump?

Are there any drawbacks to going with an electric water pump other than cost? Any benefits other than freeing up some hp?

My best advice would be... DONT BUY ONE.

the OE pump works fine and acutally pumps more water at high rpm than the electric unit. Waste of money IMO.

The flow from an electric pump is considerably less at higher rpms....I had a Meziere and it overheated/detonated my motor to a degree that it lifted the heads and broke the ring lands on 7&8. I'm getting the shortblock bored .005" over, new pistons, new main and cam bearings and I'm using an Evans high capacity mechanical pump..... the Evans flows about 25% more than the stock pump. DON"T GO ELECTRIC !!!!
