Default Trying to install new shifter. Need help.

I can't seem to get the center trim plate off. I have unbolted the torx screws and removed the retaining nuts but it just doesn't deem to want to come off. I almost removed it but it was scratching the area around the center ac vent. Anyone know how to remove the center trim without scratching anything. Any other useful tips for my shifter install. Thanks.

How many Torx screws have you removed? Did you make sure to get the one behind the little air temp sensor grill next to the ignition switch?

Try going to this link. It is pretty detailed as to the procedure.

It looks just like B&M's directions. I attempted to remove it again with no luck. :mad I know this step should not be that hard.

Once you make sure that all fasteners are removed, you may have to grab the upright portion of the panel, near the top, and on either side of the radio, and give it a firm pull straight back towards you. There are some push in retainers on the back sides along the edges. Don't remember the exact number but there are a couple at the very top and one or two along each edge. You may have to give the panel a sharp little tug. HTH

There is a screw behind the ash tray. Take it out and you will see the screw.

There are two screws in the ashtray compartment get them both or you will break a very expensive piece of trim. Total of three screws on the radio bezel.

Even once you get all the screws out it takes some grunt. I thought for sure I was gonna break mine in half, I eventually just pulled on it like I wanted to break it for sure, and it came out.

Have you removed the center console lid? Try putting the shifter in a different position, that gave me more room to move it around.

Put the shifter in and I like the short throw but it is very notchy. I heard the B&M is smooth but it is not.

I don't have the B&M but I've heard good things about it. My Hurst was really stiff in the beginning but it loosened up after a few weeks. Yours will probably do the same.

This appears to be fairly common among pretty much all the popular shifters. The change-over to Red Line ATF in the tranny made a noticeable difference too.
