Vararam Install = Lean Codes ?
Everyone:
I installed the Vararam last weekend and after 80 miles I noticed that my check engine light was on. After checking my codes I discovered that the code was for a LEAN condition.
1.) 10-PCM - PowerTrain Control Module
P0171 - Feul Trim System Lean Bank 1. (History)
I reset the code. I guess the Vararam is doing the right thing by getting more air into the car.
Will the car learn the new air flow ? Should I worry about hurting the engine until it learns the new air flow ? I reset the code and plan to drive it again sometime this week.
FWIW, I got a baseline dyno run and mine was rich as fark (10.5-12.2 a/f) on the dyno. Added vararam and x-pipe and was still running rich, though not quite as much, so the computer can compensate some. I don't think the vararam alone should cause you to run lean. You buy the car new? Already been customized (program) perhaps?
I just installed a Vararam a couple weeks ago too. I did not get any codes, but at first, the car felt as though it was running a bit "off" so to speak. However, after about 120 miles, that feeling is gone and the car is unquestionably more powerful. I suggest that you give it a little while longer to adjust.

I bought the car brand new. I also had it dyno tested in April and it was a bit rich too If I remember correcctly. I will keep a close eye on this.

I will do some driving on it soon, and will better be able to tell how this is working. I really don't have enough miles on the vararam to tell anything for sure yet.
have you put headers on or done anything with the O2's.. if so, make sure you have the right plug on the right side O2 and the left on the left... It does make a difference...
There were earlier reports on here about some stock 04 Z's running lean codes when a intake was put on. The Blackwing was one mentioned. It only seemed to happen with some cars ??
