Default Hurst Shifter, any concerns?

I want to reduce the my shifter throw so this is the route I take from what I hear. I am wondering if there is any difference in transitions? Is it smooth like the stock shifter? Any thing else you might think of let me know!

I see one in Mid America for $259.99. Can that price be beat?

Even Ebay can beat MAMs price on anything and you will get better customer service. I paid 159.00 shipped to an Ebay store. The only problem I have with the Hurst is I do not get to drive it enough. You will have to play with the springs and spring tension adjustments until you are happy. I use one strong spring on the 5/6 shift with medium adjustment on tension and 2 weal springs on the 1/2 shift with full adjustment. Once you are happy, tighten it up, use locktite on the stops if you chose to use them, they are a personal thing. Then use the shifter to drive the car it will work in and you will quickly learn to love it. Just remember 1/2 pulls over, 5/6 push away and 2/3 is off neutral center.

Is this install info you are giving me?

Thanks for the info, I think I may go ahead and purchase one.

How is the install process? I am not mechanic but I have some common sense.

Install is very easy. No special tools required. Go to the Vette Essentials website (forum vendor). There are very detailed instructions there.

A better question would be: has anyone seen a higher price on a Hurst shifter?. You can pick one up from
LAPD for $155.

well I am most likely buying from someone from the forum here, so it is used and already broken in. So that might be a good thing!

Mine accomplished two functions... For now, (still hasnt loosened up much) my S/O no longer wants to drive the Vette, and second the shifts feel GREAT. It is a little stiff, but seems to loosen up a tiny bit each time I drive it.

I think its definetly an improvement over stock.
I would change out the springs that are factory installed to
the lighter ones included. I would also recommend a new handle.
I think a heavy (ex. alum) one helps to eliminate noise and vibration.
don't reinstall the stock plastic handle.
just my opinion

I remember the first ride after the installation was so akward, the throws felt so short. Now I got used to it and it feels long again. Really good shifter. The best part is the that the 2nd to 3rd shift is so easy. Just push the shifter up from 2nd and it goes right in. I remember that with the stock shifter it was a pain getting into 3rd.

Bought it from LAPD for $155. Well worth the money.
