Default HELP: Stranded-Tires. Best replacement?

I have a 98, C5, A4, Z51, it is on jackstands and needs tires.
I have driven on the goodyear f1 EMT, and they were too noisy and the car dangerously slid and bounced.

I have driven on Michlin Pilot Sports non emt's and they were better, but too many road hazzard problems.

PLEASE HELP: What is the best EMT tire for this car now?

Thank-You, Daniel

Michlin Pilot ZP's (zero pressure). They're run flats.

Toyo Proxies are not run flats, but they are quiet and grip quite well and the price will not kill you.

I had Firestones and was very satisfied with them, but I have no experience as to how they would compare to the Michelin RFTs.

The Kuhmo runflats have gotten very good reviews and are pretty cheap as well. The fronts run $165 each, and the rears $226 each at TireRack. The Kuhmo non-runflats are even cheaper at $129 and $182 respectively. I haven't deceided if I am going with the runflats or non-runflats, but I am going with the Kuhmos either way. Great performance at a great price.

I have no experience with the Michelins but the Firestones are great. You will not get the same Run Flat performance from them as the Goodyears (50 miles Vs 250 miles) but if that is not a concern they will outhandle the Goodyears in both dry and wet conditions. At one of the Go Kart tracks where I autocross my times in the dry with the Goodyears were slower than my times in the wet (very wet) with the Firestones. The Goodyears were a good 4 seconds slower in the wet. The Firestones ride softer and have a little less tread. The softer ride probably contributes to their reduced run flat (50 mile) capability and the reduced tread (9/32 Vs GY 11/32) may show up as a little less overall mileage. However, they do cost less.

If you need/want the safety and security of a run-flat I would recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZPs. When it came time for new tires on my 99, I opted for the Michelin's. Within the first few miles I knew just how good the chassis and suspension on the C5 was. Not hidden behind the stiff, rough riding greasy feeling EMT's.

The Michelins made my car feel like it cost $10,000 more than it did. Maybe that's why a lot of the high end European cars come with Michelin's. Oh and the C5R's switched to Michelin's this year. Me thinks they know something about performance tires.
