Help, can't open c5 hatchback....

I have a 1997 C5 and when I activate either the remote or dash release, that hatch only releases on one side. It's not enough to open. Any thoughts about getting around this or ways for me to get my CD changer out of the back? thanks!

Your gonna love this. Crawl in the back and remove the two corner compartment covers. Now remove the cargo net nuts if they're installed in the corners of the hatch area. Gentley grab the bottom of the driver or passenger rear wall covers(carpeted cover which hides the hatch solenoids and top storage safety pins). You can probably raise this cover about 4-5 inches without damage to it. As you now have the cover lifted, you'll see a small 18 gauge or so braided steel cable, pull it, it's your manual release.
