Default Reverse Lights Not Working

on 99 coupe my reverse lights do not come on when the car is in reverse. The lights do flash when I deactivate my alarm. Does anyone have any suggestions on fixing this problem?

My 99 6mn had the same problem. Replace the back - up light switch. It's quite easy on a 6mn, but a little more work on an A4. Good Luck !

This is a common problem especially on the MN6s. The reverse lamp switch on the tranny goes bad and usually shorts. There is a fuse in the passenger footwell that you can check. The Approach Lights Feature that lights them up with the key fob remote uses a separate circuit, so they still work.

This is a simple fix and the switch should not be very expensive (about $12 if my memory serves me right). If you're willing to do it yourself, it's simply unscrewing the switch from the tranny housing (located on the passenger side of the MN6), screwing replacement switch back in and reconnecting wiring harness.

The tranny housing is under the center console right?

It's just in front of the rearend. The switch is on the passenger side, easy to spot- only thing there with wires going to it. I got mine at Autozone for about $10.00

I have a 99 and had the same problem and the switch was the culprit.
