Default Lean codes with intake

I have a 04Z. A friend with same car got a code on the DIC from a Blackwing intake. It was a lean code. My question: Will doing a computer relearn procedure make this go away ? If not, then has anyone found a way, short of a $500 tune and a few hour trip. to resolve this issue? Thanks, Skip

maybe you have done this already, but I would go back and double check all your connections, you could have something loose where between the MAF/airbridge or filter...I have heard of this happening with the Halltech Stinger on the Z06 too..it might also have to do with the fact that the Z06 Maf does not have a screen like the regular C5's do, and the computer can't adjust to the extra flow.... I am not sure this could be corrected with a relearn procedure.

I am sure plenty others will chime in here on this.

Good luck

The screenless MAF is the culprit. You could buy an '01 MAF and swap it for the stock unit. Don't know what the cost is. I have the same problem with a stinger on my '04Z. Recently I fashioned a makeshift air scoop out of a clothes dryer vent and mounted it through the shroud. The warhead filter from my stinger sits on top of the scoop getting additional air from underneath. The idea is to smooth the airflow passing through the MAF. So far I have about 500 miles on this setup (which was extremely cheap) and I have not seen a lean code. However, I need more code free miles to consider the mod a success.

I will be at Carlisle show this weekend. I will ask any tuners there I can locate. This would be a chance for one of them to be a big help. Ready to spend to get things right.

I spoke to Andy at A&A a short while ago and he told me that this situation is not uncommon on late model Z06s with aftermarket intakes. A dyno tune will, in all likelyhood, help (eliminate the codes).

I am sure a dyno tune will solve the lean code and make the Z run a lot better. The problem is I have no good shops even close to my area. The other thing is, to put a couple hundred dollar intake on it needs a $400 - $500 dyno tune. Not sure it is cost effective. Now, if I want to add a cam to all this, it starts getting more worth while. Carlisle this weekend, hope to talk with available tuners.

Figure $600-$700 for 25 RWHP......not bad at all! Let us know what you hear.

I had the same code with my LS1 after I installed my Blackwing and a screenless MAF.
I unhooked the battery and did a relearn. The cars been good ever since (2 years).
It's worth a try with yours.

BTW, 01 Z06's DO have a MAF screen. I had to cut mine out (with help).

Glad I read this, I was going to de-screen my maf when I install the Halltech Stinger. Thanks for the info.
BTW, mine is an 01.
