Default HUD Burnout?

Does the HUD display module burn out or otherwise fail from exposure to sunlight and heat in the interior? I have used mine less than ten times in all the time I've owned the car (it was part of the option package but I didn't care if it was there or not). Now it does not display at all, after many months of not having even tried it. Suggestions? What's involved in replacement or repair? In the eventual event when I sell the car, of course it needs to work, and I'd just as soon get it done now under warranty even if I'm not using it.

if it's not coming on at all it might just be the fuse, I dunno. But hell, if it's under warranty then it's the dealership's job to figure out why it's not working.

True, true, but I'd just as soon not have them tearing apart the dash and spawning rattles unless it can't be helped! Mostly just curious is all. Thanks.

Since you don't use it, are you sure you know how to turn it on?

I never drive with mine off.

Check that the light intensity is turned up.

It may sound funny, PastorBrad, but I had a similar experience with a friend who though his left side speakers had failed. Drove him nuts for weeks. I looked at his system and the balance setting was set to the right side only! (His wife had driven the car and was playing with the settings.) He bought me lunch because I saved him a trip to the dealer for repairs.

If that's not it, then check the fuse(s), and, if that doesn't fix it, then take it to the dealer.

Does anyone ever notice their HUD display going all "funny" and displaying the LED imprints (so I can see the shift light imprint for example) - but I can see it all. and it passes like a wave and then the HUD is back to normal. I sort of think it may just be sunlight hitting it funny because whenI noted it happen, I drove back past where it happened, and the problem repeated. I doubt my HUD is broken, just wondering if others noticed this.. Its happened about 4 times only.

I've never had mine apart but I'm pretty sure it just plugs into the back of the instrument cluster and is not very difficult to remove.

Do it again and stop there to see. I bet it's just sun reflecting off the panel.

Mine went ballastic on the way back from the Cruise-in, about 5 hours intothe ride home - everthing lit up at once - sounds like what you are describing. I turned it off for a 1/2 hour and when I turned it back on it was fine - hasn't done it again.
