Weird A4 shift lockout problem
Occaisionally, after starting when I depress the brake and the shifter button and go to shift out of park, I can't, its just locked out and it doesn't matter if I push in the shifter button any harder, I just don't get that click that lets me shift. Eventually it will shift and sometimes it takes 10 - 15 secs. but other times it will take a couple minutes (really frustrating if I'm running late). It occurs maybe 2-3 times per month at the most and only in the morning when first started. Other than that there is no pattern. TIA for any info.
It's the solenoid in the shifter. Seems to not work when cold,
but is okay when warm.
I just completely removed mine. Throws no codes or anything on
the DIC. It will allow me not to take the car out of park without
having to depress the brake pedal.
Because I fixed mine(so to speak) I'm not sure what would the cost
be if not under warranty.
Here's a pic...
with the glove box, which gains more access to the piece that
covers the shifter/boot, etc.
Takes about 20-minutes to unscrew all that and then remove the
solenoid.
I wish I had a clue what the replacement cost would be.
I hope it means I'll have fewer problems 10 years from now.
