Got 50,000 mi. on my 98 c5 is it time for new plugs?

What brand is best and should I change wires?

The TR55IX NGK irridium plugs are quite good. It used to be that you had to choose between long life and performance, but from my reading, it appears that because of the small size on the iridium profile you get both.

Unless you see some physical damage with the plug wires they should be fine. They, usually test around 300 ohms and Chevy says don't replace them unless they go over 700.

A month or so I put plugs and wires on my '98 which at the time had about 44K on her. My tuner said I had a slight miss and that I might eliminate it with these changes. It worked.

I went with a MSD wire set and Bosch PlatinumX4 plugs (pre-gapped)and have been pleased with the results.

Watch out for that #7 plug...its a real pain in the *** to get to.
My solution?...a breaker bar, six inch extension and a double -swivel plug socket!

I just had my 98 dyno tuned, and even with only 33k on the car, the plugs were pretty bad. Autotap showed us it was getting 7 degrees of KR, so I pulled a plug and it looked pretty bad, the gaps were way too high. So I put in fresh plugs and instantly the KR went to zero. The stock plugs just suck. Go with NGK TR55s at a .050 gap and you'll be laughing. Plugs are so super easy to change on the C5 too, it's a half hour job or less. I'll be changing my plugs once per year from now on, maybe even twice per year.

I changed the plugs and wires on my old 2000 just before I traded it in. Didn't notice any difference at all after changing.

I put NGK TR55 Irridiums in at 15,000 miles and noticed a difference in idle and WOT.
Then I went SC'd. I kept the plugs in case I go back to stock. At $7 per plug and only 5k miles on them, it's worth keeping.

Even tho, in all likihood I'm permanently blown. I can't imagine not having a blower. Yee haa!
