Default Brake Squeak...

Brakes have started squeaking when comming to slow rolling stop. Have less than 4,000 miles on new '04. Dealer "put silicon" on the problem.

I'm thinking the pads may be glazed and some hard braking is needed to rough them up.

Your thoughts?

Take the care out and re-seed the brakes. When you do this STOMP on the brake not just step on them, 40 - 0 several times and 80- 0 several times. Then drive around a bit to cool the brakes and put your car away for 24 hours.

the squeeking will go away for a bit, but will come back. Corvettes have performace brakes, performance brakes squeek and dust, no two ways around it. Ceramic pads almost eliminat the squeek and dust. Cermic brake pads stop well under normal conditions but if you stomp hard on ceramic pads they will heat up real fast and loose stopping power very quickly.

My 04 Z brakes squeak a little too. It happens just as you are coming to a stop. I think it is just something you have to live with along with the brake dust.

I went for a LONG canyon run today and now mine squeek more after lots of hard braking.

I bleive the only way to prevent this anoying squeek is to just NOT stop
