I have h/c, 3.42s and 3600 Yank Convertor. Very good all around piece, runs 11.30s, gets 25mpg on fwy and very tractable. Without H/C you might want to stick with 3.42s as well as you wont have the high rpm kick. Stock cam will make more low end.
Is there a noticable difference going from 3.15's to 3.42's ?
I don't particularly want to give up the highway mileage with 3.73's but I would like a little more ummph from a stop. I do not race.
I had the 3.15 and went to the 3.42. It makes a huge difference. Like I said I don't have any H/C and still lite up the tires with traction control ON !
Had Yank SS3600 and 3.42's nice combo for everday driving. Now have Yank PT4000 and 3.90's. After first 200 miles I was beginning to think I made a mistake and went too high. However after a lot of tuning the shift points and IFR tables with LS1Edit, I am really starting to like this setup.
Before
3.42's - 70mph - ~2200rpm
Now
3.90's - 70mph - ~2500rpm
I would suggest you go with a slightly higher stall than the 2400 you are talking about, say 2800 - 3200. As well if only for everday use and minimal racing, go no higher than a 3.73 and no less than a 3.42.
I personnaly think they are too much for an A4 but thats just my .02. If you dont do that much highway mileage and looking for the most at the drag strip they are nice. You will be turning a lot of rpms on the highway. My 3.73's were about 2400 at 70 mph. I recommend either 3.42's or 3.73's depending on the combonation and the purpose of the car..

good advice for the A4.
3.42 if one insists on continuing to use run-flat tires;
3.73 for those willing to upgrade to non EMT tires for the better traction available with them.

3.42 will turn about 1,600 in 6th for a comparison
gosh the difference in a qrtr mile time for a 4.10 and a 3.42 is only going to be a tenth or two . . . good for the drag strip but on the street where you are not going to be going 100 mph ( ) you should hardly notice the difference
Thanks for all the input. My car is my daily driver but see's so little freeway driving I am going to go with the 4.10's and and a Yank 3600 stall. Who knows I may even start going to the track, its only 7 miles from my house. I will let you know how it goes.
