I personnaly think they are too much for an A4 but thats just my .02. If you dont do that much highway mileage and looking for the most at the drag strip they are nice. You will be turning a lot of rpms on the highway. My 3.73's were about 2400 at 70 mph. I recommend either 3.42's or 3.73's depending on the combonation and the purpose of the car..
I have 4.11 on my 2001 with A4. I love it, and I only use this car for weekend. So it is not a daily drive car. With 4.11 you will feel that the car has 100 more horsepower. Gas mileage went down by about 5 mpg (I had 2.73 before). After about a month of drving with 4.11, you will get used to it ,and it will just feel like everyday car. However, for everyday drive, 4.11 might be too much. Gas mileage is bad, RPM is too high. I think for daily driver 3.73 is good with some kind of Torque convertor.
410's for your A4, IMO you won't like the high revs all the time, but don't give up if it's your dream. Try some 342's or even 373's your A4 will like it. Gary
Vette Doctors recommended 3.90's for my A4 and he swears that I will love the combo. Not as high as 4.11's but a definite improvement over 3.42's. I'll re-post once I get the car back.
I like my 3.42. Do a lot of highway miles and higher revs equal lower MPG and higher trans/engine temps! Its hard enough keeeping my tires from lighting up already...can't imagine a higher gear is necessary.
6 speed owners can tolerate 4.10's... mainyl because fifth and sixth gears are both overdrive. When on the highway, they can still keep the RPM's down to a tolerable level.
I have 3.90's and am very happy with them. My mileage around town actually is better. It's about 5 mpg less on the highway. I don't like the idea of lots of highway with them. The RPM's are too high for me. I only take a couple of 100 mile or so trips a month since installing them. I would not recommend any more gear than 3.90 if you plan on doing more than 70 mph regularly. Don't even think about traction on the street, when you mash it.

So do we have to feather the gas when lined up against that supercharged Mustang? There is one auto equipped supercharged Stang on Staten Island that is wicked fast, couldn't keep up with him with the 3.42's.
I was thinking of that same question which rear end would be best all around everyday driver for the A4. Thanks for the input guys. Just like to know what the total cost would be to change the rear end. I got 2.73s now and it needs improvement. (badly)

I'm sure someone can recommend tires that will hold up. With stock tires and a 4000 stall there's no traction until 50+ mph for me.
Is there a noticable difference going from 3.15's to 3.42's ?
I don't particularly want to give up the highway mileage with 3.73's but I would like a little more ummph from a stop. I do not race.
I'm going with 3.90's and a TCI 4000. Was able to ride in a fellow Vette with the same combo and OMG that thing was a riot to ride in and drive. Throw some Kumhos on your bad boy for daily driving and then get some DR's for the track. I promise you won't regret that combo.
got 373 in my a4,, would not suggest anything steeper,, mileage went down a few,,,anything higher woul dbe too much for the highway for long trips,, imo....with a maggie they add a real kick
The 3.90's will be coupled with my heads/cam combo, PT 2400 converter (not too steep of a stall speed), Kooks w/ Corsa Indy's, Pro-Flow, Z06 intake manifold to produce an awesome street machine with acceptable highway driving. I feel the 3.90's should be better than 4.11's on the highway and the 3.90's should be a tad better than the 3.73's on the street.
