Guys,
I just had a weird problem with the washer pump on my 98 vert...
It stopped working, I checked the fuse is OK, and I have 12V to the connection to the pump when I press the button on the switch...the wiper motor works OK when pressing the button, so the button should not be a problem....
Take out pump and connect it to 12V external power supply, and the darn thing works!!!! Put it back in car again, NOT WORKING...
Try bending the wires on the plug when you have the pump out of the tank to see maybe if the connection inside the plug is bad. When you say the pump does not work, do you mean the motor will not work OR the motor works but the pump will not pump fluid? If that is the case the strainer on the suction hose inside the tank may be pluged up or the suply lines to the wiper arms may be pluged up.
The motor itself doesn't work.... I tried bending the wires, but still no luck...The weird thing is that when I measure the voltage in the connection (without the pump) it's 12 V but the pump won't work..BUT it DOES work out of the car, connected to a 12V power supply....
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Bingo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You may have 12 VDC on one of the wires BUT,, you may be missing the ground return path in the wiring harness!! Using the DC Volt meter, put the probes in the wiring harness plug and see if it reads 12 VDC. If it does not, figure out which wire is HOT (12 VDC) by grounding one of the meter leads to ground and probing the wiring harness plugs until you read 12 volts. (Make sure that someone is turning on the pump when you try this. The other wire should be ground. Read that wire using your OHM Meter and see if you get ZERO ohms.
I wil break out the service manual and tell you where to look for the ground return.
