This morning I went to put the defroster on the windshield, but the air only came out from the face and feet vents. No matter what setting I put the vents at, it still onlys blows air at the same setting. Has anybody else encountered this problem? If so, was there an easy fix? Any help that you folks could provide would be greatly appreciated.
as well as many others on the forum. My culpret ended up being a 1/8" vaccum hose which connects to the rear of the manifold near the fire wall. If you've ever had the manifold off for any reason that hose will definately break. The fix is removing the fuel rails and pulling the manifold forward about 6" to get to the hose. Also, check under the battery tray and make sure you havn't got acid leaking onto the other hoses (I think theres 2) under there. There are alot of posts in the archives on this with pics.
Had the same problem. Dealer couldn't diagnose it.
The flapper valves in the air conditioning distribution system are operated by vacuum. There is a vacuum distribution manifold under the dash above the glove compartment.
A 1/8 in vacuum hose passes through the firewall in a large bundle of wires. It leads to the vacuum tank which is located under the battery and is fastened to the right door jam.
In my case, the vacuum hose was broken at the point where it left the wire bundle on the engine side of the firewall and bent down towards the vacuum tank.
To get to it you must remove the battery, the partition that separates the battery from the engine compartment, and the battery tray.
The service manual has excellent diagrams of all this although it is, in my opinion, somewhat poorly organized and indexed. Check pages 1-130 through 1-150 or so.
If the vacuum hose that connects to the rear of the intake manifold is broken you should get a code. It will have something to do with the oxygen sensors not reading correctly (to the best of my memory). I had the opportunity to diagnose this one when I missed reinstalling it when I put in my Z06 manifold.
I was able to access the vacuum line to the back of the manifold simnply by removing the PCV line. I unplugged the injectors, removed the PCV line and was able to see the line unhooked and plugged it back in.
