At the local Corvette club autocross yesterday my steering effort at low speeds increased dramatically! Things were fine after the first couple of runs then suddenly it's like driving a delivery truck. No leaks anywhere under the car or around the p/s pump. No strange noises either. I did notice that my p/s fluid was very low in the resevoir when hot. In fact, it didn't even touch the dipstick. I forgot to check the P/s fluid even though I added extra oil to the crankcase. I filled the p/s resevoir to the correct level but still nothing.
I'm thinking that I sucked some air into the p/s lines and need to have the system bled. Is that something that could be done at home in the garage? I'm guessing that if there was a major failure to the p/s pump that some sort of unusual noises would be heard. Any thoughts?
Hate to take her to the dealer if I don't have to and run the risk of a whopping repair bill.
