Default HOT engine after Hypertech & Stinger installation

I installed the Stinger air intake and reprogrammed my Vette with the Hypertech Power Programmer III. The only programming I did was the engine tuning with the non-RFG gas. Here are my questions:

1) It seems, when in idle, the coolant temperature gets hot (close to 228 degrees F, if not hotter). Is this normal?

2) I hear a slight slight noise when I accelerate (not a pinging noise - sorta like metal scraping noise). It is only noticable if you are listening for it.

Are these normal signs due to my upgrades? I know I need to add the cooler thermostat, I just haven't done it yet.

Any help is appreciated.

Please purchase a 180 degree thermostat. Use the hypertech to program your fans for a 180 degree thermostat. I have a 1998 vet. I had 2:73 gears. Stock I was running 13.6 in the quarter. I changed to 3:15 gears, Ghl Bullets, Velocity stack, Hypertech power tune, I already had a Blackwing. My new quarter mile times were 13.1. My car is still under warranty so I would not go lower than 3:15. I also used hypertech for gear scaling and it worked perfectly. E-Mail me and I will be happy to answer any question you may have about Hypertech because I have used it extensively.

With programming installed, I'm not surprised that your engine is running hotter, because those programs are designed around a cooler stat. Note that the programs were originally designed for the 160 stat, with the 180 as an option for people in cooler climates where a 160 made cars run too cold.

Being that you're in San Diego, you can run the 160. I ran the 160 on my C4 up north in San Jose and it ran great!

Hey Nate

The guys on the form said not to worrie, I live in San Diego and my 04 Z06 runs at 220 most of the time, even on the freeway, it will creep up to 230-235 in traffic, I posted this same question a while back and these degrees don't seem to be unusual but it bothered me enough that I have ordered a 160 degree stat just for the peace of mind.

228 degrees is not abnormal for a stock thermostat due to stock programming fan turn-on temps. If you look in the manual that you should have with your Hypertech, there are three programing options for engine temperature. Optimized stock thermostat settings, and settings for 180 and 160 degree thermostats. If you're running the stock thermostat, use the optimized stock thermostat fan turn-on temps. The engine will run a lot cooler than 228 degrees. The Hypertech is a good unit.
