Default High Oil Pressure

I noticed that my oil pressure guage was pegged at 80. I pressed the guages button to see what it said in the DIC. It eventually indicated 129 steady.

I called the dealer and the service advisor (great guy in my few dealings) told me that it was probably the oil pressure sending unit.

Sound right?

Where is it?

I've replaced the oil sending unit in my Firebird when I was a kid. I'm hoping this one will be just as easy once I know where it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is NOT under the intake. It is behind the intake. You do Not have to remove the intake... Just move it forward about 6 inches so you can work Behind the intake. see my tech tip instructions for correct advice. the part cost 40 dollars.. dealers are charging anywhere from 250 to 450 as documented on this forum.. I have done two of these,...the first one took an hour, the second one took me 40 minutes..

I'm going to give it a shot. I've ordered the part from GMpartsdirect.com. It cost $37.50 including shipping. Dealer wanted $55.XX plus tax. The parts should be here by Wednesday. I'll use the tech note and let you know how I come out.

Thank you for the replys!

Make sure you follow the torque specs to the letter.. and use anti-seize.

Well, I did it! It took me a while though (~4 hours). I had trouble getting the manifold moved forward. The instructions were very helpful, I just needed more detail. I ended up removing the fuel injectors and that seemed to do the trick. Maybe not necessary as mentioned earlier, but I just couldn't get it to budge without it. I'm sure I made it more difficult than it had to be.

After I reassembled it I've got a vacuum hose which doesn't connect to anything. It's on the drivers side toward the back of the engine. There is a "widget" (I don't know what it is) that has two vacuum hose connections. A vacuum hose connects to it on one connection and the other connection has a small vacuum hose (L shaped) that connects to nothing that I could find. The car runs fine but this just doesn't seem right.

Any suggestions?

as mentioned in my tech tip there is a small vacuum line that connects to that L shaped nipple.. the line is black and hard to see..if you look on the passengers side of the casr you will see it.. but when you remove the manifold or move it forward that line will pop off.. that vacuum line controls your AC doors... you should hear a slight hiss in the cabin with the car running.. and the car won't "seem right" with a vacuum leak..

Yup, and you're more than likely going to have some issues like, "my A/C doesn't come out the proper vents when I try to change it" , etc. You need to get that puppy hooked back up.
