Default seat latch problem, help !

My drivers seat occasionally breaks loose on the right side when accelerating hard. The seat back latch is weak so that the right side of the seat back gives up a couple of notches. The problem is intermittent.

Anyone else have this problem ?
Any advice on the fix ?

I did see a post about this a couple of weeks ago, but I can't find it. If anyone has the link, I would appreciate it.

Thanks !

I have the same problem with the seatback adjusters. I have had mine break loose a couple of times on the track, and that's no fun.

A friend of mine had a similar problem on his 2003 and the dealer replaced something under warranty and he has not had the problem since.

The problem is that the adjusters are infinite adjusters and do not have predefined notches. They are just a cable, you lift up on the adjustment handle and it releases the "jaws", you adjust the seatback and release the handle and the "jaws" clamp back down on the cable. Too much pressure on the seatback can cause the cable to slip through one or both "jaws". Mine sometimes happens when I rotate to the right to latch my seatbelt.

I'm taking mine in to the dealer to see if they can do something.

Sounds like the exact same problem that I am experiencing. Just like you, mine has failed on the track and I'm sure this is because the seat is subjected to much more force when the car is at cornering and acceleration limits. These seats are just POS !

Here is some interesting news: I brought mine to the dealer today, and they are going to fix the seat back adjustment mechanism under warranty. The service writer told me there was a TSB on this ! I'll keep you informed about how this goes.

There is a TSB for this:

#04-08-50-005 (2/26/2004)

Seat Back Twisting (Resynchronize Seat Back Recliner)

Condition: some customers may commment on the drivers or passengers seat back twisting.

Cause: This condition may be caused bhy the seat back recliner cables not releasing together.

If anyone wants to read the rest, I'll FAX it to them. In essence, there is a procedure to resynchronize the mechanism. If this doesn't work (and it didn't in my case), they replace the mechanism. My part is on order. If anyone is interested in the outcome, email me.

ALAS, no more seat breakdown when putting the power down through the apex and trackout !

Same problem last year. They eventually (after four trips) replaced the entire seat. At the time, there was no TSB, so hopefully you can get this done more quickly. BTW - Since fixed, including many road course days with a six point harness, problem still fixed.
