Default Thanks Gm!

We'll,

I have an 04 zo6 with 11k miles on it. I have 3:90 gears and all the bolt ons. It has 387 rwhp and 367 rwtq. Two fridays ago I made a speed shift from 1st to 2nd and grenaded the rear end and it tore the output shaft to the tranny. tHE CAR BASICALLY HAS 55 MORE HORSEPOWER THAN STOCK AND GM WONT WARRENTY ANYTHING!! Guess that's what I get for 7 corvette's worth of loyalty. Anyway, just ordered a Tranny from RODNEY(CRASHED 94). It will be cryo treated, blue printed, polished sliders, carbon blocking rings, and hardened output shaft. Rodney seems like a real good guy and at 2k shipped is the bargain of the century. I also ordered the DTE tranny brace with their stage III 4:10 diff minus the right side hardened shaft. The rear end is cyro treated, polished etc. basically with the install it's going to cost me around $6500. That was my money for my AFR heads and g5x3 cam! Oh well, but at this power level I think its crap GM wouldnt fix it, or am I just retarded?

Well, let's see now.... for starters, 3:90 gears, that's not from Chevy.
When you say "all the bolt ons" are you talking headers, intake manifold change, throttle body change, MAF change, air filter / coupler or what ? If there are a lot of mods then I don't blame Chevy for not having to warranty things they had no control over.
I think most service mangers will try to look the other way on many simple things, air cleaner change out or headers. But when half the top end of the engine is no longer GM, that's probably the clincher. Then to add insult to injury, you have a gear ratio set that isn't even available from the factory.

I guess they had to draw the line someplace.

Dude I feel for you, but Mods are a **** out of luck chance taker. I too mod but you blew the rear, that rear did not even belong to chevy. Not trying to flame, but its the chance you take.

you should have said nothing about mods, just bring it in to another dealer.

they wouldnt know if a 3.90 rear is in there.

How on earth can you expect Chevy to warranty a part that is not theirs???? If you only changed the ring and pinion, then you altered the original part, the resulting item, which they had nothing to do with, failed. 3.90s are not even available from Chevy in your car.

My car is an '03 A4, but I know full well that the drivtrain warranty is probably dead. While Chevy offers 3.42s on Corvettes, they were never intended for my automatic. Nor were higher stall converters. If my tranny dies, I can't go to them and say a damned thing. Nor would I expect to.

Nobody put a gun to my head and made me modify my car. Though some of these guys posting ETs and dyno numbers pretty much achieved the same effect

Hang in there dude I know how you feel. When I was trying to do my H/C package it seemed that everything that could go wrong did to have me delay it. I just got myself to the point where I said the hell with it and did it. Needless to say I'm working my butt off (OT on my full time job and a part time gig). Hell I'm just glad that so far everything is working out and it looks like I'll have the loan paid by Dec.

If I have a problem with an after market part.... It's on me or the maker of that part... If you bought the part used, that's the risk of buying a used, price discounted part.

I would never try to make a warrenty claim that could have had a major contributor to another parts failure. I keep all my old parts so I can swap them back if I need to (or for selling to car).

I would never go to a dealer in a fashion that would allow them to document the fact that I was changing the cars factory parts out. D*mn computers... they track every thing these days

At this point it doenst matter as they wouldnt warranty anything mechanical on the car. As of today I ordered a racing trans from RODNEY(CRASHED 94) with all the bells. Cryo treaded out put shaft and gears, bluprinted, polished sliders and carbon rings. I also ordered today the stage 111 diff from DTE with cryo treated gears and case, hardened shafts and all that goes with it. I also got there tranny brace. Without labor everything came to $5200. So I figure $6500 with install. This hurts because this was my head and cam money. I already have my race suspension, wilwood brakes and now driveline. It just amazes me how much I have into the car without ripping the engine open. I guess I love vette's more than I thought. GM can right anything they want in their computers because this car will never sniff the dealership again! by the way, since I have the strongest tranny and diff available on the market, I'M GOING 4:10'S THIS TIME!

Your 3.90 gears caused the problem. I don't think Chevy should eat this one. Sorry for your issues, and glad you have a plan.

That and the fact that you were powershifting which is extremely hard on components

UHHHH, as said earlier, 3.90's is not an option on your car. Therfore you had them changed, you know that. Why play dumb and act like GM has ANYTHING to do with your aftermarket gear set??? Why don't you whine to whowever sold you your gears, that might make more sense.

Why dont you shut up!!!!!!!!!! I didn't ask for a smart azz answer. Like I said before, I wasn't under the impression that rear end gears could take out my tranny. Now that I know I don't think GM should take care of it either. I posted this Friday after I found out and wasn't happy. Now that I know it's because of the gears I've taken responsibility and ordered 5k worth of the best stuff made now.

I guess I got it into my mind that the car was bulletproof at this power level. I am sure at this point that it probably wouldnt have happened if I had the stock Z gears as I know they are stronger and have been shot peened. I ordered the DTE stage III diff where EVERYTHING is cryod, polished and hardened. Hopefully at this power level it wont happen again.
