do you like them? what kind of power did you pick up? Any complaints besides the 04 Z's lean condition. I am considering dumping the blackwing for one and would like everyones input thanks.
Iv had mine all summer and have no probs with it. It does rub a little on the liner felt but not much. With stinger and b&b catback i shaved off 3/10ths off my 1/4 times. laters
I just put on Stinger, also drilled two semetrical wholes in each fog light housings. The car sounds better and seems to pull a little harder. 1st mod I like it.
Fit and finish is great IMO. SOTP is very good with much crisper throttle response. I was able to knock off a solid 2-3/10ths and pick up 2 mph in the 1/4 mile I did get the lean code after about 2 months or so of use (about 2000 miles). No big deal though, just reset the codes
I do not know about "pure performance" differences, but I had the Vararam on my old Vette and would by the Stinger again in a heart beat just due to the ease of install.
If you already have a Blackwing, don't bother....you'll likely notice little to no difference.
Not saying the Stinger is a bad product...if you were stock it'd be a different story. But I wouldn't drop the $$$ for what would amount to (maybe) a minimal increase, most likely none at all over the Blackwing.
You could spend all your money constantly upgrading a single item to the latest and greatest, but doing so could get mighty expensive over time to get that .5 hp the new wonderproduct offers over the competition. If you want a noticible gain from an intake considering where you're at now, look at the Vararam...the Stinger ain't gonna do much for you.
My advice: You got the air filter restriction out of the way, now spend the money on the next restriction and something that WILL give you the added hp you want....ie: headers.
The Stinger-R's biggest advantage over the Blackwing may very well be its potential; after all, it comes with an airbridge that can outflow any stock airbridge and the bonus smooth throttlebody coupler is icing on the cake. If you ever decide to add a supercharger or NOS, you'll be ready with the Stinger-R. Now if you want to keep all that extra HP and do not frequently drive in monsoon downpours, you should consider doing my cold air mod - cutting an opening directly below the massive Warhead filter and installing a stainless steel screen and air scoop. This steady supply of cold air will prevent your C5's computer from scaling back power (because of hot air getting sucked in from the engine bay).
BTW, check my sig for HP gain figures after double Stingers.
Have had mine for three years. Very Happy. Jim Hall is a good guy and great engineer.
You must have the TRAP or other model, since the Stinger-R has been around only since early Spring, 2004. Certainly, it too, is an excellent intake system.
