I took my '03 Z06 into the dealer Saturday for some warranty work. Anyway, they said my steering lock repair had not been done. My question is this, they said that they put in a wiring harness & do a re-program, will they take apart any of my interior trim do this? I want to know so I can take apart myself so they don't bust all of the tabs doing it themselves. I also need a seat belt that the sewn area is coming apart and I will take the rocker panel trim out ahead of time. I just haven't had much luck with dealer warranty repair, in fact I tried to get them to give me the parts and I would do it all myself, they could still charge GM and they wouldn't have to do a thing. Anyway, just want to know what I should take apart on the column lock if anything.

As far as I know there is no mechanical mods on the 6 speed equipped cars other than an inspection. I believe they just flash the PCM to make certain the car will not run with a cloum lock problem. I believe they are confusing it with the automatic.
They have to check the clearance on the column lock. When they did mine they pulled the knee bolster and column cover, as well as pulled the wheel. Sounds bad, but is pretty straight forward. After they do this, install a column lock bypass and never worry again.
I got my column lock recall not too long ago, but can't decide if I should let them mess with my car. Do they actually do anything good for the column lock issue? Or is it a waste of time?

If you already have installed (or are going to install) the bypass, then the recall won't buy you anything at all. I had the recall done and two weeks later, was bit by the column lock (actuator was shot).
They shouldn't have to pull the steering wheel for the 6 speed. They should only have to do a function check and if it isn't up to par then they will pull the steering wheel. The only bypass that is GM approved not to damage the BCM is the Harness K bypass. It costs a bit more than those aftermarket bypasses but won't harm your BCM, which is costly to replace.
What does the bypass do?? They told me it was a small wiring harness?
They are reading their documentation wrong! I saw the docs when my dealer mentioned the harness. That is for older models. Have them re-read their instructions. Your car does not need the harness or updated relay. It states clearly on the documentation what years it is for.
The column lock bypass plugs into the harness in place of the the Column lock actuator. It simulates the actuator to the cars computer.
With the CLB in place your column can't lock. If you do the recall, you can still get stranded. (recall prevents locking while in motion)

Not for manual trans cars. The recall only shuts off the fuel if a column lock happens. The column won't lock if the car is in motion to begin with and there has never been a proven case to date, of this ever happening.
