Default Granatelli MAF. Really work?

See this ad on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...925659640&rd=1

Are these the real deal? Summit sells them for $329 so I am wondering if this person can really sell them this cheap. Also, does anyone here have one on their car? Did you notice a difference? Any mystery Check Engine lights or anything like that?

save your money... this guy must have got hold of the thousands that were sent back because they, in most cases, gave negative increases in HP gains..There are plenty of Dyno numbers posted on this forum before and after.. most showed Zero or negative increase..

Just for fun, I bought one of the Granatelli MAF's for my 04 M6 Coupe. The part # was 350119-C for cold air tuning (I also have a Blackwing). I know that most of the opinions on the forum is that this MAF does little or no good, however, I did see a noticable increase in power at low rpms (2000-3000). I have never had a error code. Maybe I got one of them that actually works........

I used to have one and it definetely worked as far as I am concerned. Most people who are saying it doesn't work were adding it to a car that has already been tuned. The Granatelli works on stock cars. Once you get to the point where you are doing dyno tuning you might as well take it off and sell it. When I added the Granatelli MAF, LS-6 manifold and a GHL exhaust I took nearly a half second off my 0-60 times. Once I modded a bit further I sold the MAF and dyno tuned.

I have had more than one reputable tuner tell me that in the circumstances described above they do work.

I sold mine a few weeks ago on ebay for $200. I would of offered it here but didn't feel like getting flamed by people who had never even tried one.

Put one on my car after my Halltek Stinger. There most def was a noticable difference in the performance. I picked mine up for $85 on here. Was def worth the money, but i don't think it would be for $350-$400.

Theres only one way to know for sure if its going to give you any gains. TRY IT. It doesn't matter what the product is, some people are going to say its good, some will say its bad. I found out that you have to just try things for yourself sometimes. Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

All it does is lean out your mixture. There have been quality issues since day one. Some work, most don't.You can do the same thing with ls1edit.I've been on this board more than two years and I would say failures outnumbered successes five to one.

When I installed mine, it gave me tons of lean error codes (both right and left side), bogged my engine down at low rpms and speeds, and made my engine ping and knock like crazy. I took it off and re-installed my stock MAF and all of the problems went away.

What I did with my GMAF was install it and run the car for a few months. Then run traces to see how it actually worked on the car. We found that it actually hurt performance. So it was removed and not used since. IMO, that is the best way to find out if it works for your car or not.

Well, this is all great info. I guess if I ever see one cheap I will pick it up and see how it works on mine. Gotta love this forum, I was just about sold on them through their marketing. Thanks.

I installed one on my 97 and from day one had the following;

Ran way to lean and there was a constant ping going through the gears, etc..

Continuous service engine light - on all the time

Didn't have a problem before and haven't had one since - Save your money.

End of story.

Im more familiar with them on the Fbodies than C5s, but I am sure they are a lot alike. I guess its like some people said, some cars like them, some do not. I talked with James from RunninWithTheDevil (Predator dealer) and he told me that when you mess with your MAF it makes your car diffiuclt to tune and I guess thats where you can lose power.

First couple days mine worked fine, then yesterday it decided it didn't like the new MAFS anymore. Looked up the codes, sure enough.... running lean. I know my Camaro didn't have that problem... WTF!?!

Also now my coolant temperature is running high... around 228 when sitting still and about 208 while driving. quite a bit above normal for a 68F day. Wonder if they are related?

Lean mixture runs hotter. A good reason to be careful when leaning the mixture to gain a couple horsepower if you are doing wide open throttle runs for 20 to 30 minutes at open track events.

I've had one on my car for about four months now. No problems whatsoever. I don't get to drive hard very often so can't really say with any affinity whether or not it made a difference. Again, I second the notion that they are asking way to much for them. Look for a used one for less and try it. That way, if your car has issues with it, you've not risked as much...

If you do get one make sure its the - C model for cold air intakes. The new ones have screens (I've heard the old ones didn't) Also, take the time to run through the relearning process that was posted here somewhere. You pull two fuses, turn the car on and off and then replace the fuses and go out for a 50 minute drive. Seems to work or at least I didn't get any codes.

Default Test run G MAS

Hi, I am going to the track friday night, just happens my most recent mod is a GMAS and a high air flow bridge. I have the new one with cold air function and the screen. Should be close to the same temps I ran in the spring so if I beat a 12.81 with me or a 12.71 with my smaller cousin driving i would say it works. I will let you know Friday night when I get home.

A friend had to swap his granatelli out for a stock one so the car could be tuned. The granatelli created major issues for the tuner.
