How do you remove it? Hoping to save a few pounds.
The plumbing is 'fairly' accessible, but will require some work to get at and remove. You will need block off plates for the headers and the codes can be disabled via tuning. At most you will be saving about 8 pounds; the air pump and tubes.
If you want to save weight, the A/C will lighten you the front end by about 84 pounds
I doubt that a few pounds will be worth screwing up the system. I wonder how you would "program" to compensate?
withstupid:
You will fail EPA readiness status if that matters to you even if you try to turn off the codes. What's the smog laws like in NM? I assume they do OBDII? :
BHP, carpe dm,
I have HPTuners, so if I can disable the codes, I'm thinking I'll still pass the OBDII test here. Good thinking though. I know I'd get codes without the tuner program! As long as removing that thing isn't too hard, I can always reinstall the system right before the smog test. I know it may only be 8 pounds, but it's right at the front of the car, and that's where I'd like to cut weight.
kromberg,
A/C isn't getting removed as the car is a daily driver. Do you know where I could find a set of those exhaust block off plates?
i removed all that crap and turned off the code. I also removed tha ir pump and put in blockoff plates. llooks much cleaner and its easier to work on now

You can disable the codes but it will still fail EPA. You will get an air system failed alert. The smog station will see that the pump is gone. If if you put it back on they will see history codes that you cannot erase. Take a look a EFI-Live if you have it to see what I mean.
why cant you remove history codes? The airpump is all but hidden unless you have a flashlight and a lift. I know quite a few people w/o emissions stuff that have passed using ls1 edit.

I am referring to the "EPA GM.WUEMPASS PID" as an example. I have not been able to clear it. The smog station can tell if you have tampered with the "system" especially of recent date.
