thermostat:
[1] A temperature sensitive device used in the cooling system of an engine to control the flow of coolant between the cylinder blockradiator. It is set into the engine block and shuts off the circulation of water until the temperature of the water reaches the point at which the thermostat is set to open. Because automotive internal combustion engines operate more efficiently when their temperature is maintained within narrow limits, the thermostat closes off the flow of coolant from the engine to the radiator until the engine has reached the desired operating temperature. Other thermostats are used in the electrical circuit of the vehicle heating system to control the amount of heat supplied to the passengers, in the manifold heat control system that preheats the air-fuel mixture going to the cylinders and in the automatic choke.
[2] Device which senses ambient temperature conditions and, in turn, acts to control a circuit
Looks like being an Engineer can complicate a persons life. I'm glad to see you guys live in seporate states. I would hate to see World War 9 break out over a thermostat.
a piece of cardboard????? are you serious.. so when it gets wet is will get sucked into the cooling fins of the condensor.. then I will have to pick each piece of dried cardboard from the 40,000 cooling fins of the condensor.. IM driving a $50,000 well tuned sports car.. IM not putting a piece of cardboard where a real option designed to do what I want it to do will work. do you put cardboard up on your windows in the house instead of curtains or drapes?
Use a piece of plastic if you are worried about the condensor. Also nobody can see it , so your window comparison doesn't make sense.
Oh! wait maybe we can use a window pain-----Now I get it.

your suggestion was a piece of cardboard.,,, Now a piece of plastic is a different tune altogether,, nothing like a well engineered piece of plastic...
I thought it was something of import--like vehicle speed. Phooey!
If you think the my topic stinks... you should smell my feet.
I can feel your pain though .. let me know if I can make it up in any way... Pizza??? give me an address...

I knew you would like the plastic idea. You are a materials engineer ,I think.
OH Boy !!!!!!!!! The fans don't run when its 30 outside.. !!!!!!!!!!!! reprogram them to what??? the program starts at 226 F. the low speed fan turns on at 226 .. the coolant never sees 226 in the winter.. in the winter. the duty cylce of a stock 190 stat is closed most of the time just so the engine doesnt get too cold..if your on the highway doing 60. So many wannabe's here
ahh Now the truth comes out. You must have been the engineer assigned to thermostats on the C5s when you were working for GM. You got the shaft! Thats why you get all riled up when someone pushes that button.
Oh well, While you play with your thermostat swaps, others like me here are dropping in cams and blowers. Keep doing that, temps are REALLY a focus around here!
Evil Twin.......you are a bundle of information.....you are a little rude.....but you make my day.
IM happy that i can make your day... if you are smart enought get past the tongue in check rudness..my post are meant to be irreverantly funny.. kinda like Don Rickles.
Eamador , you couldn't carry my jock strap let alone my tool box...
