Try a company named banks performance, I dont know how good they are but what i've read here on the forum they seem to be decent. They are about the best deal that i've seen for $375.They are hella based, you can keep your pop-up lights and they plug right into the stock housing. I was even thinking of getting some myself.Banks performance
9006's are $325
H-4's are $375

be advised they are not designed for your car and the install is a "hack"

I mean from what i have read you are taking the bulb apart out of the connection housing that it is sold in and then applied to the vette bulb connection.

Hid's are not designed to be put in the housing on the vette. You are actually risking a few different things, over heating the lamp area, blinding people etc etc tickets. Being d.o.t. legal

remember no blue lights from anything but the po po's

I have the CATZ HID's which includes HID bulbs that are 5000K which are white and not blue...My lights are VERY bright and I have NEVER been flashed by anyone.....as long as you point the lights down and slightly to the right.

Actually, True HIDs run much cooler than Halogens, so no worries about overheating the lenses. They also use less power once they have been fired up by the ignitor/balast unit.

Now, the "Xenon" wannabe replacement bulbs you see for $19.99 are just blue painted bulbs.

Hey im just giving the facts I read the reasearch on all of it and made up my own mind. You have guys on here making comments about the bulbs not being as blue after a while so is it close enough to say the paint on the bulb is being burnt off for those with the "blue light special" look?

I have heard different about the heat but do you own searches on here.

Hey, aftermarket HID's are illegal to sell, not to have. In comparison, catless exhaust systems, race cams, loud exhausts and stereos, and speeding is also illegal. To get the best effect from an HID kit you should install the Euro/T84 projector housings from pfyc.com. This will give the best cutoff and least amount of glare from an HID kit.
perhaps what he should really say is it is illegal to have on your car on the road but not to own them.

The HIDs run at 35w so heat shouldn't be too much of an issue. The main thing you have to watch out for is the lack resistance that may trick the computer into thinking your lights aren't off so the housings won't go down when you shut the light off.

The big problem is when people try to use higher wattage bulbs on their stock wires, which can end up frying them.

If you want to keep your pop-up lights and get HIDs, you might have a small issue getting the headlights to go up and down. I think the fix is generally to flash the brights. It's not a big deal, but just so's you know.

I don't have HIDs, but I'd be interested to hear about the setups that are out there nowadays.

I had them adjusted at banks also before I drove with them. I have also drove thru several states with them on with no problems from the cops. And my tag says I-SPEEED.

The factory vette housings are not made for HID bulbs, neither are the E-code housings.

This equates to a uncontrolled beam pattern that doesn't project the light in a correct manner. What most people refer to "brighter" as, is more scattered light, not exactly what we are shooting for.

However, HID retros are popular w/ the uniformed crowd, hence why there is a market for them.

True HID retros take time to rebuild the headlight housing w/ true OEM HID's from BMW, Audi, etc. These do show major improvements, but as with anything worth while, there is some labor involved.

As for the neighsayer's that think a 8k 9006 HID kit is awsome, didn't have true performance in mind, just looks.

I am not going to get into a pissing match with you bro, but, I have a benz with true hid. My vette looks just as good or better than the benz. I wanted fashion and function and i got it. You can have the yellow stock headlights.

Actually, you aren't giving facts. True HID's are not blue because of a tint, they are blue beacuse of the phosphors in the bulb. I'd also like to know where you got the reference to heat being higher as mentioned previoulsy in the thread.....from REAL WORLD experience and not hearsay, I can tell you that my HID's run much cooler than my stock Halogens.

I-speed,

You can believe whatever you what, your entitiled to it. But to put 10k HID's in your vette, and state that you wanted fashion proves my point.

Everybody that truly knows about HID's, knows that 10k is all about fashion, not function. If you were worried about function, you would have gotten 4500 to 5500K HIDs.

BTW, my vette doesn't have stock yellow lights......
