Default Airbug cutoff switch not matching up

I'm having a local stereo shop install the airbug cutoff switch that Fichtner Chevrolet sent me. Unfortunately we're running into a problem.

As it turns out the passenger side airbag connectors were located behind the accelerator pedal. That wasn't a problem once we called Bob at Fichtner and he helped us out.

The problem is that the connectors on the airbag cutoff switch do not match the passenger side airbag connectors. They look like they would fit the driver side airbag perfectly though.

Here is the connection for the driver side airbag:

Any ideas?

Something doesn't sound right here....My pass side A/B connector is located right next to the glove box (as per the install instructions by KenRobb). Check this site for install instructions. http://www.97vette.com/ I followed same with zero problems. Good luck.

According to Bob at Fichtner about 30% of the Corvettes have the passenger side airbag connectors behind the gas pedal.

The thing that is strange in this one is that the connector that fits the cutoff goes directly to the driver side aribag and not the passenger side.

Believe this has happened to others. Call Bob and see if he will send you another kit. Think I remember him writing about this before where some kit connectors are wrong. It appears GM did relocate the passenger side connectors to driver side on some model after I did my 99.

I did one on a 2000 coupe and found the connector on the passenger side right next to the center stack. Had to reach my hand through the hole in the dash frame to locate it.

NO....They do not want the liability. I'll be extremely surprised if you find a GM or any other car dealer willing to do this.

Unfortunately I was early in the 2000 model year. They started the cutoffs from the factory a few months after I took delivery of mine.

Damm skippy, mine is 8/99 build date for 2000, so the bag cut off switch should be a direct bolt on and install, Right?

Troy,

I have called GM on this and they are adamant the correct connectors are behind the glove box or above the gas pedal area. I had them double check the harness and all of the harnesses are the same for all of the years including the connectors. They tell me there have been no complaints of a connector problem in over a year; so they doubt the connectors are wrong on the harness. Their gut feeling is your installer just has not found the correct one yet. I have pulled two other kits I had here and the connectors look exactly the same. I'm stumped because I can't remember anyone not finding the correct connectors. That is out of hundreds of these kits we have received from GM.
I have checked with our techs in the shop who have installed some of these kits and they all said one of those two places is where they found them. One tech said he found his taped up and not dangling out where you could see them.
I would have your installer look some more. If he can't find them let me know. Also if he can't find them give me the tag # on the harness that came with the kit. I will then get with engineering and see what we can do. I guess there is always the remote chance we got the wrong harness, but doubtful.
Keep me appraised and I will do some more checking on this end as well.

Bob

If you have a service manual for your year car, check the SIR wiring schematics. Then check the wire colors on the wires that you (your installer) are saying is the pass side A/B wire, but, yet has the wrong connectors(?).

My car is a '98, but, I'll bet the same color wires were probably used on all C5's (maybe ??). The two(2) wires going to my pass side A/B are white/black and dark green/white. The two(2) wires going to my drivers side A/B are white and dark green. Check it out---you may come up w/ the answer. Good luck....

We'll take another look to see if we can find more connectors. I'll also take a look at the colors of the wires. Thanks.

The wire colors match up properly. The connector still doesn't fit.

Maybe they put a newer wiring harness on mine?? It was pretty close to the time when they started putting the airbag cutoffs in at the factory. I suppose it's possible that they put in the newer wiring harness because it was showing up in the parts bin.
